Prawns Amot Tik Recipe/ Ambotik Recipe/ Goan Prawns Curry Recipe.


Prawns Ambotik is Goan cuisine. It is hot(spicy) and tangy(sour) curry. Hot spices well blended with tamarind and Kokum which form sour component and give ambotik flavor to the curry.

Ingredients:

  • Kashmiri whole red chillies( deseed and soaked in water for 20 minutes).
  • garlic 7 cloves
  • ginger1"
  • 12 black pepper 
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seed
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 
  • 1 small lemon size tamarind 
  • kokum 4 
  • oil 2 tsp
  • salt per taste
  • 2 onions chopped 
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • green chillies slit 
  • sugar a pinch
  • Prawns 25 nos (cleaned, developed,washed thoroughly apply salt and turmeric)

Method:

  1. Grind paste: red chillies, garlic,ginger, black pepper, turmeric, cumin, tamarind add little water and make fine paste.
  2. In a pan add oil when hot add chopped onions saute till translucent. 
  3. Next add tomato fry till cooked. 
  4. Add slit green chillies, kokums, sugar and paste cook five minutes. 
  5. Add prawns stir fry for two minutes. 
  6. Add paste and cook for five minutes. 
  7. Add water as per gravy, salt to taste. 
  8. Take a boil and then slow the flame and simmer for ten minutes or till gravy is cooked. 
  9. Ready to serve.

Note: 

  • Can substitute Prawns with shark fish or Calamari(octopus).
  • Apply salt and turmeric powder for Prawns and keep for at least fifteen minutes.
