Tamarind Rice Recipe Or Pulihora, Easy Tamarind Rice Recipe.
Tamarind rice recipe is a popular recipe of South Indians. This dish is traditional recipe of South. This dish is also known as Pulihora which means sour rice. Puli means sour. It is blended with spices, tamarind water and rice.
Tamarind rice recipe can be prepared and carried on our journey. It is yummy and very delicious rice. Authentic way the recipe is prepared in two step the tamarind boiled with spice and rice separately and then mixed together.
I have modified this recipe, it is the same taste but prepared in easy, simple and quick method by merging the tamarind and rice together. Tamarind rice can be served with rasam, I have served this recipe with aloo tamator rassa.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Serves: 3-4

4. Give a quick stir.
5. Add the chopped tomatoes.
6. Add salt as per taste.
7. Add red chilli powder.
8. Now add turmeric powder.
9. Add the tamarind water.
10. Add curry leaves and water.
11. Put a lid and take a boil.
12. Take a nice boil.
13. Add the soaked rice to the boil water.
14. When rice boil, put the lid.
15. Cook the rice on low heat till done and stir occasionally.
16. Tamarind rice is ready to serve.

Step By Step Method.
1. Put oil in a pan and allow it to become hot.2. Add slice onion and sauté it.

9. Add the tamarind water.
10. Add curry leaves and water.

- 1 cup rice (washed and soaked)
- 25 gm or big lemon size Tamarind (soaked in half cup water)
- 3 whole red chillies
- 4 cloves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 bay leaves
- oil 4 tbsp
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- few curry leaves
- 1+1/2 cup water
- Put oil in a pan.
- When hot add sliced onion and sauté.
- Add red whole chillies, cloves, cumin, bay leaves and sauté.
- Add chopped tomatoes and stir it for few seconds.
- Now add salt as per taste.
- Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and give a quick stir.
- Add the tamarind water and stir.
- Add water and curry leaves.
- Put lid and give a nice boil to the water.
- Add the soaked rice and stir well, let the rice boil nicely.
- When the rice boil nicely cover putting lid on top, and cook on slow heat till the rice is done (stir occasionally while rice is on simmer).
- Tamarind rice is ready to serve.
- Serve it with aloo tamator rassa.
Notes:
- Wash and soak the rice and keep, then carry on other preparation.
- Also soak tamarind separately after soaking the rice.
- Use kolam or par boil rice.
