Masoor Dal Recipe, Easy Masoor Dal Or Red Lentil Recipe.
Masoor dal is a Indian red lentils. Lentils are an everyday staple food throughout India. They are great source of protein, fiber, vitamin B, iron and zinc.
There are two type of masoor one is the whole or sabut masoor with skin and the other is red or lal masoor dal. There are varieties of dishes made from masoor like khichadi, soups, dal tadka....I have prepared masala dal recipe adding coconut, home made mix masala and served with hot steam rice and potato sabzi. Here goes the recipe.
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 12 minutes
Serves: 3-4
1. Wash the dal 2-3 times under running, add one cup water, salt and turmeric powder keep for ten minutes.
2. Now switch on the gas and let it cook for 4-5 whistles.
3. In a pan add oil, let it heat then add mustard seed let it crackle, then add cumin seed and asafoetida.
4. Add chop onion sauté till translucent, add green chillies and mix masala sauté.
5. Now add the coconut paste.
6. Sauté the masala for two minutes.
7. Add the cooked dal mixture.
8. Add the tamarind water.
9. Add one glass water or water as required.
10. Give a nice boil then simmer and cook for seven minutes and then it is ready to serve.
11. Serve it with hot steam rice and sabzi.

Step By Step Method:

Ingredients:
- 150 gm red masoor dal
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seed
- 1/2 tsp cumin seed
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 green chillies
- 2 tsp mix masala
- 3 tbsp tamarind water
- 1 glass water or water as required
- 3 tbsp grated coconut
- 1 tbsp chop onion
- 1" ginger
- 4 garlic flakes
- 2 strigs coriander leaves
- Boil the dal in cooker adding water, turmeric powder, salt and take 3-4 whistles.
- In a pan add oil, let it heat add mustard seed, cumin seed, let it crackle, add asafoetida, green chillies.
- Add the chopped onion sauté till translucent then add mix masala and sauté.
- Now add the paste give a quick stir and simmer for two minutes.
- Add the boil dal mixture, water as required for consistency, salt take a boil and let it simmer for five minutes.
- Masala dal is ready to serve.
- Serve with hot steam rice and sabzi.
- If mix masala is not available then add 2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp garam masala powder or goda masala.
- If do not want to use cooker then wash the dal under running water 2-3 times and soak the dal for two hour and add the soaked dal at last while cooking.
- I washed and soaked the dal only for ten minutes and put into the cooker.
- The main ingredient for this recipe is asafoetida.
