Tomato Rasam Recipe, Easy Tomato Rasam Recipe

Tomato Rasam or Thakkali rasam is a common South Indian dish. It can be served as soup or with hot steam rice. This is a delicious curry, taste great. It is a simple, easy and quick recipe. It is also healthy recipe good for stomach, and also soothing when suffering from cold and fever. I love rasam it is a healthy also quick recipe specially helpful when I am tired and it is worth trying.

Step By Step Method:

Boil tomatoes in hot water and then drain the water and remove the skin out.

In mixer jar put the peeled tomatoes, black pepper, cumin seeds, garlic, tamarind pulp, coriander leaves and make paste.

Add oil in the chatti, when hot add mustard seeds, when crackle add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, whole red chilies.

Add the paste.

Now add two cups water and let it simmer on slow flame for seven minutes.

Rasam is ready to serve.

Ingredients:
  • 3 nos tomatoes (Boiled in hot water for five minutes, remove the skin and make paste)
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 2 cups water
To make paste:
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 7 nos black pepper
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp tamarind pulp
Tempering:
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seed
  • a pinch asafoetida
  • 6 nos curry leaves
  • 2 nos whole red chilies
Method:
  1. In a chatti put oil, let it heat for two minutes.
  2. When oil is hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, whole red chilies, asafoetida, curry leaves.
  3. Add immediately the paste, tomato puree, salt, red chilly powder, turmeric powder and two cup of water and stir.
  4. Cook the rasam on slow flame for seven minutes and off the flame.
  5. Serve it with hot steam rice.

Notes:
  1. Can use two teaspoon ready rasam powder instead of black pepper, cumin seeds and red chilly powder.
  2. Cook rasam on slow flame, do not cook rasam more or it will not taste good.
Tip of the day:
  • Capsicum contain tannins which work as an astringent, treating gastrointestinal disorder.
