A stew is combination of veggies and mutton blended along with mild spices and a very healthy recipe. Veggies like carrot, green peas, potatoes, onion, tomatoes, are added to this recipe.

Different region people prepare the mutton stew recipe in their own style and culture.

Being an East Indian, Mumbaikar I will share our East Indian style mutton stew recipe, having the authentic taste and aroma in easy, simple and quick way.

East Indian mutton stew recipe is an traditional authentic recipe prepared in East Indian families during festive occasion. It is a signature dish prepared during marriages or any East Indian occasion.

Step By Step Method

1.Wash the meat thoroughly under running water, put the washed meat in a cooker add salt, one cup water and cook the meat taking four whistle.

2. In other pan add oil and allow it to become hot.

3. Add fine chopped onion, green chillies, garlic, ginger.

4. Saute till translucent.

5. Add turmeric powder and give a quick stir.

6. Add the veggies.

 7. Cook the veggies.

8. Add the garam masala and stir.
9. Add the boil meat and stock, also add water as required for gravy.

10. Add salt as per taste.

11. When the gravy boils add lemon juice to it.

Ingredients:

  • 750 gm- mutton
  • 3 nos- onion (fine chopped)
  • 1"- ginger (fine chopped)
  • 6 nos- garlic (fine chopped)
  • 3 nos- carrot sliced
  • 3 nos- potatoes sliced
  • 200 gm- green peas
  • 1 tsp- garam masala 
  • 1/2 tsp- turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp- lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp- oil
  • salt to taste

Method:
  1. Boil the meat in cooker, adding one cup water, salt and take four whistle.
  2. In other pan add oil, when hot add fine chopped onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and saute till translucent.
  3. Add turmeric powder and saute for two minutes.
  4. Now add sliced potato, cook for five minutes.
  5. Add to it carrot and green peas cover and cook till veggies are done.
  6. Add the boiled meat to it and mix well.
  7. Add the garam masala, salt and the meat stock, add water as required for gravy and lemon juice.
  8. Give a boil and simmer and cook for ten minutes or till all meat, veggies and spices are merged well.
  9. Mutton stew is ready to serve.
  10. Serve with hot steam rice or pulav or rice roti.

Note:

  • While adding salt in stew gravy add little salt because while boiling meat salt is added to it.
  • Green chillies and lemon juice add as per taste.
  • Chop the onion, green chillies, ginger, garlic very fine.
  • Can substituted vinegar to lemon juice.
  • Can add French beans also.
  • Gravy should not be thick or thin.

Tips:

  • The burning sensation caused by handling chillies or chilli powder (either while grinding, cooking or by accident) can be reduced considerably if the affected parts are washed with sugar or tamarind.
