Chakli Recipe, Easy Instant Chakli Recipe

Chakli recipe is a savoury snack from India. Chakli is also prepared during festival. We find Chakli prepared all over India with different names to it.

Chakli is typically made from flour of rice, Bengal gram (chickpea), black gram, wheat flour or mixture of flours (bhajani). Also there is a variation for black gram which includes green gram (moong) or pigeon pea (tuar dal). There are different name for cakli in different state.

Cakli is made from flour of different type as described above adding ingredients included coriander powder, cumin powder, red pepper powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, sesame seed, salt, carom seed and oil I have tried to prepare the instant recipe for chakli without any pulses or bhajani.

Here goes the instant cakli recipe yummy and crispy savoury snack.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Yields: Half kg

Step By Step Method

1. Take rice flour in a flat plate or big bowl.

2. Add carom seeds to it.

3. Add the white sesame seed.

4. Add the asafoetida.

5. Add red pepper powder.

6. Add turmeric powder.

7. Add the salt.

8. Add fresh cream.

9. Mix all together.

10. Add water and knead the dough.

11. Dough should be stiff and hard.

12. Take the chakli mould.

13.Grease the chakli mould with little oil.

14. Grease the palms of hands, take a big ball of dough and put into the mould.

15. Give the curve shape to the chakli, pinch the end so that the chakli may not spoil it shape.

16. Carry and put in hot oil and cook on medium flame.

17. Cook both the sides.

18. Can also put directly in oil uneven shape and fry ( this will be the shape of broken chakli).

19. When one side cooked turn upside down and cook the other side.

20. Cook both side thoroughly.

21. Remove in the strainer to remove the excess oil.

22. Serve it hot or cold it thoroughly and store in airtight container.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg rice flour
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp carom powder
  • 1 tsp sesame seed
  • 1 tsp red pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 + 1/2tsp salt
  • 6 tsp fresh cream
  • 100 ml oil for frying
  • water as required (to knead stiff and hard dough
Method:
  1. Take rice flour add to it asafoetida, carom powder, sesame seed, red pepper powder, turmeric powder, salt and cream.
  2. Mix all together. 
  3. Add little water alternatively and knead the dough. 
  4. Dough should be stiff and hard.
  5. Keep one side oil to make hot in a Kadai.
  6. Now grease the mould with little oil, also apply oil for palms of hand, take a big ball and put inside the mould and shape it as desired
  7. I have shaped the chakli to curved shape pinched the end and closed, so that the chakli maintain its shape and also may not open while frying and also I have put the chakli uneven directly to the oil. 
  8. After chakli get fried remove it in strainer or paper towel, the excess oil to get drained.
  9. Serve hot or cold it completely and store in airtight container.
